Synthesis and Structure of A Liquid Crystal Compound: 1,4-bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl)benzene

Abstract
The title compound, C24H40N2, was synthesized via etherification, Grignard reaction, dehydration and hydrogenation to produce 1,4-bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl)benzene with a purity of more than 99. 95%.The overall yield was 70%.The structure of the target compound was confirmed by IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
